Lamps…  You have them of course, but are they perfect for your space?  In this article, we’ll give you some tips on how to choose a lamp for some common spaces in your home.  Where and how the lamp will be used are important, and since we think style is the ultimate decision, we’ll give you some ideas about color and finish too.

In an office:  The task lighting provided by a lamp in your work space should be bright enough to work by but still able to provide mood lighting when desired.  Often times, people are turned off by task lighting because they can tend to be too modern.  However, using a lamp with a 3-way switch can be the perfect solution, as it can be turned to the highest wattage for working by or the lowest wattage when desiring a soft glow.   And since style matters, the finish could be anything that coordinates well with the rest of the office design.  The light on this stylish acrylic desk is task-worthy while still remaining stylish.

On your bedside table:  The height and size of a lamp at your bedside should work well with the scale of your headboard.  For instance, while a tall, heavy lamp works perfectly with a higher headboard it may overpower a shorter headboard.  The color of a lamp can be more subtle to blend in with the space or, if you desire a pop of color, a lamp is a fun place to get this.  For example, this beautiful lamp sits stately on the mirrored chest, works well with the height of the bed and blends seamlessly into the neutral color palette.

On a dining room console:  Here’s where style can come first in your consideration.  A console doesn’t always call for a pair buffet lamps.  Think about the finish or colors you might want to complement your room, then select a size that fits the scene.  If you decide to only use a single lamp, make sure you balance the other side with an accessory of equal proportions to help balance the piece.  The mercury gold finish of these lamps complements the gold accents of this buffet, as well as the gold frames of the wall mirrors.
